Philosophy
Our Philosophy"Education is not something which the teacher does; We believe that children are born with tremendous potential that is actualized when the students are guided through a carefully prepared and enriched educational environment. Numerous opportunities for learning, through the use of manipulatives and hands-on materials are incorporated in the curriculum. Montessori believed it is through experience, the doing, that the most profound learning takes place. Our goal is for the children to develop a sense of responsibility, independence and good work habits through the utilization of the vast array of educational materials in the classroom. Natural curiosity, a fascination with the world and a desire to discover its secrets are nourished through this unique and inviting learning environment. At Stepping Stones Montessori School, we strive to offer a broad, meaningful education that encompasses the intellect, culture, emotions, social know-how and practical skills. Our students’ academic success is achieved through an individualized, non-graded academic curriculum in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, the study of cultures, history, geography and grace and courtesy. Presentations are given individually or in small groups to better address the needs of each child. Montessori’s teachings encompass a comprehensive view of the cosmos and our place within it. Our curriculum is further enriched by specialist teachers in art, music, French, Spanish, creative dramatics, physical education and creative movement. Above all, we continue to be a singularly excellent school that provides children with the foundation for their own success in life. |
